Also I think it works better hooking up to a choker on the log. I have pulled 20' long 24" Douglas Fir logs, 10' long 30" maple and Douglas Fir logs, side hill down hill and on the flat. If your vise is going to be holding chainsaws all the time a smaller one may do. Even a custom job made out of wood and an acme screw could do that better than a bench vise. Finding a smaller used one on CL may be the way to go. There are many Craftsman and Home Depot vises out there that can be had for 20-30 dollars.
