The National Firearms Act of 1934 defines a short-barreled rifle as a shoulder-fired, rifled firearm made from a rifle with a barrel length of less than 16 inches or an overall length of less than 26 inches or a handgun fitted with a buttstock and a barrel shorter than 16 inches in length. The ATF regulates an SBR as a Title II weapon.

ALL worked well for me. The Sparrow class will work but, IMO, most people will be happier with a can that has more volume. Most people probably use a 5.56 can or some type. jaflowers and fn1234. The shortened barrel are from 10.3 to 10.5 inches depending on the manufacturer. The thread adapter has to be used and I am guessing that would add 1/4 to 1/2 inch to the barrel. Well the civi PS90 has the long goofy barrel anyways. So the OAL length is 26 inch compared to the AUG's 28 inch. So the PS90 isn't that much more maneuverabe than the AUG. Plus 556 is usually (except now) cheaper and more available than 5.7. Also the Aug is known to be particularly accurate.
The barrel has to move backwards against spring pressure (there's a spring right behind the muzzle device) for proper delayed blowback operation. My CMMG 1/2-28 thread adapter only allowed 0.004" clearance, not enough. My stock PS90 16" barrel had 0.015" clearance. Supposedly the standard spec is 0.030" +/- 0.010".
